The University of London offers scholarships for refugees and displaced persons who want to study selected distance learning programmes.
For the 2026/27 academic year, most scholarship places have already been filled. The University currently lists 3 scholarships for MSc Professional Accountancy without a notice saying that no further scholarships are available.

The current official scholarship page still lists 3 MSc Professional Accountancy scholarships without marking them as unavailable.
Applicants should check the official page before applying because places can be filled at any time.
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the Refugee and Displaced Persons Scholarship, you must:
- have an offer for an eligible University of London programme;
- be a new student, or have become displaced while studying with the University of London; and
- have formal documentation proving your refugee or displaced person status.
Your evidence of refugee or displaced status must be current and include valid start and end dates.
Priority is given to applicants who do not already hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
MSc Professional Accountancy Eligibility
Because MSc Professional Accountancy is currently the programme with scholarship places still listed for 2026/27, applicants must also meet its separate admission requirements.
Applicants must have passed a qualification from one of the professional accountancy bodies accepted by the University of London.
Examples of accepted professional bodies include ACCA, CIMA, CPA Australia, CPA Canada, ICAEW, ICAI and several other recognised professional accountancy organisations.
The exact membership or examination requirements depend on the professional body. For example, ACCA affiliates must have passed all required examinations.
Applicants whose professional qualification was awarded more than five years ago may need to prove that they remain in good standing with their professional body.
What Does the Scholarship Cover?
The scholarship is applied against course fees payable to the University of London.
It should not be described as an all-expenses-paid scholarship. The official scholarship information does not state that it provides:
- a monthly living allowance;
- accommodation;
- airfare or travel costs;
- visa expenses; or
- health insurance.
This is especially important because the scholarship is designed for University of London distance learning programmes, rather than relocation to London for full-time campus study.
For comparison, the normal 2026/27 web-supported MSc Professional Accountancy full programme fee is £4,044 for Band A countries and £5,472 for Band B countries.
English Language Requirements
There is no general “No IELTS Required” rule.
For MSc Professional Accountancy, applicants can meet the English requirement if they passed the English versions of an accepted professional accountancy qualification within the past five years, or are a current member of an accepted professional body whose examinations are conducted in English.
Applicants may also meet the requirement with an accepted English test. Current examples include:
- IELTS: 6.5 overall, with 6.0 in writing
- TOEFL iBT: 92 overall, with the required component scores
- Pearson PTE Academic: 59 overall, with the required component scores
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English
- Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English: Grade C or above
Applicants who do not meet these routes may be considered individually by the University.
Required Scholarship Evidence
For the scholarship application, the University specifically requires documentary evidence of your refugee or displaced person status.
The evidence must be current and show valid start and end dates.
It must be submitted through the University’s Enquiry Hub using:
Admissions → Scholarship/Bursary Opportunities
You must also fully complete the scholarship application form. An incomplete application or an application without the required evidence cannot be considered.
Programme admission may require additional documents depending on your qualifications and circumstances.
How to Apply
The application has two main stages.
Step 1: Apply for admission
First, apply for the eligible University of London programme. You cannot be considered for this scholarship until your programme application has been processed and you have received an offer.
Step 2: Apply for the scholarship
After receiving your offer, complete the Refugee and Displaced Person Scholarship application form.
You must then submit the required evidence of your refugee or displaced status through the University of London Enquiry Hub.
Receiving a programme offer does not automatically mean you will receive the scholarship.
Application Deadline
There is no single fixed scholarship deadline. Applications are considered on a rolling basis and scholarships are awarded first come, first served.
The University advises applicants to submit both their programme application and scholarship application at least two weeks before the relevant programme application deadline.
For MSc Professional Accountancy, the October 2026 intake application deadline was 16 September 2026, so that intake is already closed to new programme applications.
The next intake is April 2027:
- Applications open: 21 October 2026
- Programme application deadline: 17 March 2027
- Registration deadline: 22 March 2027
- Programme starts: April 2027
Applicants interested in the remaining scholarship places should apply as early as possible after the programme application opens because scholarship availability can end before the programme deadline.
Important Scholarship Conditions
The scholarship is only for eligible University of London distance learning programmes.
It cannot be used together with another University of London bursary or scholarship, although other external funding may be permitted.
The award cannot be applied retroactively to previous academic years or transferred to another person.
Students must continue meeting the University’s academic and programme requirements. The University may withdraw the scholarship if eligibility conditions are no longer met or if false, inaccurate or incomplete information was provided.
What About the 2027/28 Scholarships?
The University has already confirmed that the next scholarship round will be for the 2027/28 academic year, covering programmes starting in or after September 2027.
The available 2027/28 scholarships are expected to be advertised on the University website around May or June 2027.
Applicants who cannot secure one of the remaining 2026/27 places can therefore check the official scholarship page again when the next round is announced.
