Netherlands Asylum Policy for Afghan Women and Girls (2026 Update)

Recent reports show that the Netherlands has updated its asylum policy regarding Afghan women and girls. Under the new approach, Afghan women and girls who apply for asylum have a higher chance of being granted permission to stay in the country.

Why the policy has changed

The main reason for this decision is the worsening situation in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. Afghan women face severe restrictions in daily life, including limits on education, work, freedom of movement, and participation in society.

Because of these conditions, the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) has recognized that many Afghan women may be at risk if they are forced to return to Afghanistan.

What the new policy means

Afghan women and girls are more likely to receive asylum in the Netherlands
Most applications from Afghan women are now approved, except in special cases
Each case is still reviewed individually by the immigration authorities (IND)
The decision is based on the current human rights situation in Afghanistan

Important information for applicants

It is important to understand that asylum applications cannot be submitted online or from outside the Netherlands. Applicants must be physically present in the country and register through the official asylum procedure.

Conclusion

The Netherlands continues to adjust its asylum policies based on global human rights conditions. The latest changes show increased protection for Afghan women and girls due to the serious situation they face in their home country.
