Canadian University Dubai Scholarship Types

CUD currently lists several scholarship categories for undergraduate students:

  • Academic Excellence Scholarship
  • Sports Scholarship
  • Financial Hardship Scholarship
  • Special Needs Scholarship
  • Special Talent Scholarship
  • Schools MoU Scholarship

The university also has a Study Scholarship that may be available to undergraduate and graduate students under semester-specific terms.

Scholarship places are limited. Meeting the minimum requirements allows an application to be considered but does not guarantee an award.

Academic Excellence Scholarship

The Academic Excellence Scholarship is based mainly on academic performance and is available for undergraduate study.

For new students, the current tuition waiver levels are:

High School AverageTuition Waiver
99%–100%50%
95%–98.9%40%
90%–94.9%30%
85%–89.9%20%

Current CUD students must maintain the required CGPA to continue receiving the relevant level of scholarship.

Students applying for this scholarship must normally be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours. Scholarships awarded for fall can remain valid for one year if the required CGPA and course load are maintained, while awards made for spring are valid for one semester.

Other CUD Scholarships

Sports Scholarship

Talented athletes who have competed successfully at least at city level may apply.

The scholarship can provide up to a 40% tuition waiver. New high school applicants need at least 70% academic achievement, while returning CUD students need a minimum 3.0 CGPA.

Financial Hardship Scholarship

Students experiencing financial difficulties may be considered for a tuition waiver of up to 40%.

New high school applicants need at least 75% academic achievement. Returning students need a minimum 2.8 CGPA.

The university assesses financial circumstances individually and requires supporting financial documents.

Special Needs Scholarship

Eligible undergraduate students with documented disabilities may receive a tuition reduction of up to 40%.

For new applicants, academic performance is considered individually. Current CUD students need at least a 2.0 CGPA. Applicants must provide a current professionally documented diagnosis.

Special Talent Scholarship

Students with significant achievements in a talent field at city level or above may apply for a tuition waiver of up to 40%.

High school applicants need at least 70% academic achievement, while returning students need a minimum 3.0 CGPA.

Schools MoU Scholarship

Recent graduates of participating CUD partner schools in the UAE may receive a 20% tuition scholarship when joining an undergraduate program.

This category has separate conditions and is not available simply because an applicant attended any school in the UAE.

Who Can Apply?

CUD states that its scholarships are open to students of any citizenship who meet the university’s admission requirements and the conditions of their chosen scholarship.

Most of the main scholarships listed above are for undergraduate students. Applicants generally need to study full-time with at least four academic courses per semester.

Financial Hardship and Special Needs cases may have different course-load arrangements based on individual circumstances.

The scholarships apply to credit-bearing courses and normally do not cover summer semesters.

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

CUD scholarships mainly reduce tuition fees.

Depending on the category, the reduction can reach:

  • Up to 50% for Academic Excellence
  • Up to 40% for Sports
  • Up to 40% for Financial Hardship
  • Up to 40% for Special Needs
  • Up to 40% for Special Talent

These scholarships should not be described as fully funded. The university states that remaining tuition and housing fees must be paid by the student.

Airfare, visa expenses, monthly living costs, health insurance and other personal expenses are not listed as standard benefits of these main scholarships.

English Language Requirements

Receiving a scholarship does not remove CUD’s admission requirements.

For undergraduate admission, applicants from a non-UAE curriculum taught in English may provide official proof that English was the medium of instruction.

Applicants from non-English curricula can meet the requirement through an approved English remedial route or an accepted English proficiency test. The general undergraduate requirement includes IELTS Academic 5.0 or an accepted equivalent, although some programs have higher requirements.

Applicants should therefore not assume that CUD scholarships generally have “no IELTS requirement.” The applicable rule depends on the applicant’s education background and program.

Required Documents

Scholarship documents depend on the category selected. CUD does not use one identical document list for every scholarship.

For example, Sports Scholarship applicants must provide the application form, a short biography describing sports achievements, references from a coach or PE teacher, and relevant sports certificates.

Financial Hardship applicants must provide financial evidence such as bank statements, rental information, salary documents for employed family members and other specified supporting records.

Special Talent applicants need evidence of their achievements, relevant certificates and recommendations from appropriate teachers, trainers or professionals.

Applicants should follow the document list for their specific scholarship category rather than submitting a generic scholarship package.

How to Apply

First, applicants should make sure they meet the admission requirements for their chosen CUD undergraduate program.

For the scholarship application, complete the relevant scholarship form and prepare the supporting documents required for that scholarship category.

The completed scholarship application and supporting documents must be submitted to:

scholarship@cud.ac.ae

Applicants may also visit the scholarship section of Student Affairs.

Late or incomplete applications are not considered by the Scholarship Committee.

Application Deadline

CUD currently lists two main scholarship deadlines:

Fall semester: July 7
Spring semester: December 20
